After Wendy Cope
For I shall consider some of the loveliest parts of teaching, though there are many
For firstly, the morning it snowed and only half the class arrived
For secondly, abandoning maths entirely
For thirdly, sending them outside into the playground
For fourthly, snowball fights beginning almost immediately
For fifthly, the elaborate games children invent together
For sixthly, watching them from the classroom window with a cup of tea.
For seventhly, the moment they come back
For eighthly, the smell of cold air and wet coats filling the room.
For having worn ourselves out, we deserve a story.
For Narnia would be perfect.
For they have not yet tried Turkish Delight and imagine it to be delicious.
For why else would Edmund betray his family.
